What are Coffee Chat Stitch and Sew Sessions?
I have planned these sessions for those of you who want to have like-minded company when you are sewing. Sewing can be quite lonely, we are generally in a room on our own. I find that I can sometimes be much more inspired if I sew whilst chatting to others. What could be nicer than sewing with other people. This has not been possible during lockdown and even after lockdown it will still be great to “meet” new people and getting inspired by people we would never bump into in the “physical” world.
Each sewing session lasts for one hour, followed by 15 minutes of questions and answers. Every session includes a different project. The sessions are interactive, not the traditional online sessions that you have to watch on your own. You can enjoy sewing and chatting with everyone and I will be there to guide your sewing and answer any questions you may have along the way. Of course, you can also ask me questions, show me your sewing and chat during the sessions. All you need is a computer and internet connection. You can show me your sewing if you have a camera on your computer, tablet or mobile. Sessions take place over Zoom, which is free. When you book you will be sent a link, simply click on the link and it will take you through. It only takes a minute or so, but I will log on about 10 minutes before, so you can log on early and be ready to start on time.
When will the Coffee Chat Stitch and Sew Sessions be held?
There will be a course of 6 sessions. Each session you will sew a different item. You can join each session separately, or you can book on all six sessions at a discounted price.
How much will the Coffee Chat Stitch and Sew Sessions Cost?
The price for each individual session is £7.99, or save by booking all 6 and only pay for 5, total cost £39.95.
When will the Coffee Chat Stitch and Sew Sessions Start?
The new coffee and chat sessions will start on Thursday 22nd April 2021, at 11am with the "Let's Sew the Debbie Top.
What will the Coffee Chat Stitch and Sew Sessions be covering?
I am aiming to make them as varied as possible, from sewing a variety of women’s tops, leggings and underwear; to children’s clothing; bags and accessories. There should be something for everyone. Make yourself a cup of tea or coffee, and of course a slice of cake and let’s start sewing.
What will I need to join the sessions?
For the first 6 sessions you will need to have a sewing machine. In later sessions I will introduce topics that do not require the use of a sewing machine, such as embroidery and hand stitching techniques. You will need your fabric and for some sessions you will need a pattern. You can find all patterns on the website in the form of PDF downloads, or for those of you who want a more traditional pattern, some of the patterns are available in the traditional paper format. Both forms of the pattern include easy to follow step by step instructions.
1. Let’s Sew the Debbie Top : Thursday 22nd April 2021 at 11am
I will be using the Stitch Clever Debbie Top pattern. The Debbie Top is a very easy to sew top. A great project for beginners. There are no zips, no fastenings, no facings and only 2 main pattern pieces. Perfect if you have never made a top before. Also perfect for those of you who sew often and want a quick and easy project to sew. You can sew with me on this live, interactive sewing session. This is available to purchase either in PDF instant download format or as a traditional Paper Pattern. Both include step by step instructions.
I will sew the Debbie Top along with you. You will need a 2-way stretch fabric such as Jersey or Ponte Roma. Depending on your skill level, you will all be well on the way to finishing the top by the end of the hour. If you haven’t finished, don’t worry as the pattern includes full step by step instructions for making and you will be able to finish it in your own time. I will stay online for 15 minutes after the session to answer any questions that you may have, or a general chat.
2. Let’s Sew Zips : Thursday 29th April 2021 at 11am
I will show you how to sew a concealed (invisible) zip. I will also show you have to sew a lapped zip, used if you do not want a concealed zip; compare the two and see which you prefer. Finally, I will show you how to sew an open zip into a small bag. When you book you will be sent instructions on how to make the pattern for the small bag.
You will need a zipper foot, which is generally supplied with your machine for the lapped zip. You will need a concealed zipper foot and a general zipper foot for concealed zip.
3. Let’s Sew a Maya Bag : Thursday 6th May 2021
I will be using the Stitch Clever Maya Bag pattern. This is available to purchase either in PDF instant download format or as a traditional Paper Pattern. There are also kits available in the online shop on the website. Both include step by step instructions.
I will sew a Maya bag along with you. You will need a small amount of fabric for the main section of the bag and a contrasting section for the top of the bag, wadding and a purchased pair of round bag handles. Depending on your skill level, we will all be well on the way to finishing the bag before the end of the hour. If you haven’t finished, don’t worry as the pattern includes full instructions for making and you will be able to finish it in your own time. I will stay online for 15 minutes after the session to answer any questions that you may have and for a general chat.
4. Let’s Sew a Hedgehog - Applique, Beads and Buttons : Thursday 13th May 2021
I will sew the Hedgehog along with you using the Stitch Clever Hedgehog Kit. You will need a Hedgehog kit which is available to purchase from the website. You may wish to sew it onto a fabric background that you can make up into a bag, cushion or wall hanging, or maybe even onto a garment. Depending on your skill level, you will all be well on the way to finishing the skirt within the hour. If you haven’t finished, don’t worry as the pattern includes full step by step instructions for making and you will be able to finish it in your own time. I will stay online for 15 minutes after the session to answer any questions that you may have and for a general chat.
